Dining

The Houseboat Grill

Floating on the serene water of the Montego Bay Marine Park Fish Sanctuary you won’t find a more exotic dining experience in Jamaica. The Houseboat is the perfect dining destination for an elegant evening spent downstairs in the dining room or upstairs on the deck with the night sky as your ceiling. The restaurant is located in the Montego Bay Freeport area.

The Glistening Waters Restaurant and Marina

The Glistening Waters Restaurant and Marina does not just sit on the shore of any lagoon. The Glistening Waters lagoon is known as the luminous lagoon because its waters glow at night when ruffled. Boats leave a luminous wake and fish seem to come alight. Picture that as the backdrop to your evening dinner. Night boating tours are also available.

Scotchies

Arguably the best Jerk restaurant in Jamaica you can take your pick of Jerk style chicken, pork, sausage and a number of local side orders including breadfruit, yam and festival. The setting is rustic and features an eating area and bar. The dress code is always casual as locals and tourists come to dine in, take out or shoot the breeze at the bar.

Habibi Latino

This restaurant blends an unusual mix of Latin and Arab cuisine. The combination works like a charm and it’s an unusual dining experience you won’t soon forget. The restaurant is casually elegant and comfortably situated in the mall of the Shoppes at Rose Hall. You won’t be disappointed whether you are having Kebabs or Arroz con Pollo.

Marguerite’s Seafood by the Sea

Seafood by the Sea does not say it all. It says nothing of the elegance for which this restaurant is renowned. The outdoor terrace or indoor lounge will impress you before you even see the menu. The specialty is seafood, fresh fish, exotic pastas and a few meat dishes. Marguerite’s is also conveniently located on the city’s Hip Strip between Margaritaville, Montego Bay’s favourite disco and Bluebeat, one of the classiest bars in Jamaica. With these two options next door you will be sure to have something to do after dinner.

Nightlife

Nightlife

Margaritaville

The number one nightclub on the north coast for locals and tourists alike can be found on the Hip Strip of Montego Bay. Open day and night Margaritaville serves up great music with tasty food and refreshing drinks. A great crowd of people can be found in this club on almost every day of the week due to its dynamic vibe and some of the best DJs in the island.

Bluebeat

This jazz bar and lounge is arguably the classiest joint in all Jamaica. It sits on the Mobay hip strip where it overlooks the Caribbean Sea. Known for its creative cocktails the bar is divided into an indoor non-smoking lounge and an outdoor smoking terrace over the water. Bluebeat is home to the popular Copacabana Fridayz where the club features music from around the Caribbean, the Americas and the world.

Pier One

Pier One, located along one of montego Bay’s piers, is a restaurant by day which turns into a club at night. It attracts a strong local following which comes out to party and unwind after work usually on a Wednesday and Friday. The vibe is complimented by an attractive menu featuring local and international dishes.

Shopping

Shopping

The major tourist shopping centres in and around Montego Bay provide a wide variety of items for tourists who want to take home a little piece of Jamaica or the Caribbean.  Generally available items include hand-crafted souvenirs depicting Jamaican motifs, Jamaican and Caribbean Rum, food items such as local jerk spices, rum cakes and sauces as well as clothing decorated with Jamaican art and icons like Bob Marley.  Many stores also carry international items such as brand name clothing items and accessories, perfumes, jewellery and tropical clothes manufactured in other countries.  The main shopping centres for such tastes are:

·         The Montego Bay Hip Strip (on Gloucester Avenue)

·         The Shoppes at Rose Hall (in the Rose Hall suburb of Montego Bay)

·         The Half Moon Shopping Village (in Rose Hall)

·         City Centre (near Gloucester Avenue)

·         Montego Freeport (in Freeport, Montego Bay)

·         Holiday Village Shopping Centre (in Rose Hall)

If your focus is hand-crafted Jamaican souvenirs then we would recommend a craft market.  Here you can find items such as hand-woven straw hats, bags and mats, hand-made statuettes and sculptures, highly decorated clothing, musical instruments, bead items and much more.  The two major craft markets are:

·         Old Fort Craft Park (on Gloucester Avenue)

·         Crafts Market (near Harbour Street in downtown Montego Bay)
